LnP Architects drew inspiration from the adventurous journey to the west, as depicted in the legendary tale of the Monkey King. The mall's atriums celebrate this journey, with the central atrium featuring a waterfall garden reminiscent of the Elbe. The other two atriums adopt the themes of a grim fairy wood and a botanical valley, both extending to the central waterfall main arrival. This design concept metamorphoses the mall experience amidst the rise of electronic commerce, ensuring that the Feng Xi Metropolis Plot 5 stands as a paradisal destination mall.
The mall offers a 100,000 sqm recreational retail platform targeting the young generation of Xi An professionals and families. At its heart, a natural and digital waterfall connects the multi-level retail experience, offering family leisure, cultural activities, and wellness. Visitors are invited to adventure the seven-storey deep atrium well to the outdoor green roof through the central express escalator and glass lifts.
The waterfall in the main indoor atrium utilizes a water curtain system, while the cascading plant watering employs a mist nozzle water spray system. The catch pool serves as a water tank, with an ecosystem flow that helps maintain the pool clean by continually refilling it to water the plants. The skylight uses low emissivity insulating glass combined with shading aluminum baffle, effectively reducing direct sunlight to the indoor atrium.
The project kicked off in September 2019 and is set to officially open in early 2022. The mall is located in the middle of a large residential complex with young professionals and families. It is designed to be a destination mall that attracts young consumers by increasing the presence of interactive spaces. The mall is no longer just a place to go shopping but also a place for diverse target user interaction, entertainment, leisure, and immersive experience.
The Feng Xi Metropolis Plot 5 has already garnered recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
